Gamify Discipline

If you need DISCIPLINE to hit your goals, you’re doing it WRONG!

How I replaced discipline with SO MUCH FUN that I couldn’t stop getting better.

Discipline made me feel like a loser who just couldn’t push through…

… then I replaced it with FUN and finally:

  • Lost 64 pounds (after years of yo-yo dieting).
  • Learned English in my late 30s (after years of thinking I just wasn’t good at languages).
  • Paid off 3 debts in 4 months (after years of spending instead of saving).
  • Built my business to $1.43M in the English market (after years of just dreaming about it).
  • Became insanely productive (after years of procrastinating).
  • … and that’s just the beginning.

“Discipline is DANGEROUS! It Trains My Brain to Work AGAINST Me!”

For years, I thought discipline was the only way to get results.

💪 Don’t feel like doing it? Push through.

💪 It’s boring? Push harder.

💪 It hurts? Do it anyway.

So that’s exactly what I did.

I never realized this:

Push harder: Do leads to X, discipline drags you back

Every time I pushed through, I was teaching my brain that it was painful… …so next time, it wanted to run EVEN FURTHER AWAY.

And I needed even more discipline just to pull myself back.

How Discipline Backfired… …and Made Me a Chronic Procrastinator

I pushed through it for 3 decades, thinking I was training my brain to become more disciplined.

I didn’t realize I was actually training it to fight me…

…to run further and further away every time.

Until eventually, I became a chronic procrastinator.

Even the smallest task (like writing a short email) felt so painful that it took more discipline than I had just to get started.

So I’d put it off for days. Sometimes weeks. 🫣

And the worst part wasn’t even the procrastination.

❌ I started thinking I was just lazy.

❌ My self-esteem took a serious hit.

❌ I was frustrated with myself, and constantly irritable at home.

I hated myself for it.

So that day, as I sat at home staring at that Rubik’s Cube, wondering what made it feel so easy, it hit me:

The Only Way to Become Unstoppable… Is to Make It So Much Fun I Can’t Stop

Let’s be clear here. I don’t love solving a Rubik’s Cube because it’s easy. It’s not.

I love them because I love the process of solving it.

And every time I do it, my brain goes:

“I love this. Let’s do it again.”

Have fun: Do leads to love, which loops back to Do

So I realized that instead of training my brain to run away, I’m training it to come back.

Again ✅, and again ✅✅, and again ✅✅✅.

That’s why I don’t need discipline or willpower to solve a Rubik’s Cube.

Because I don’t have to force myself to do it. I want to do it.

So I started wondering:

“How can I make my brain LOVE THE THINGS I currently have to force myself to do?”

It took me weeks and a lot of trial and error.

But eventually, I figured it out.

By adding pleasure, removing the pain, and turning it into a game, I could take almost anything I used to need discipline for…

… and turn it into something my brain actually wanted to do.

No pushing. No forcing. No willpower.

Now I live by one simple rule:

“No more discipline!

If it’s not fun, I don’t do it. Until it’s fun again.”

And just to be clear…

I’m not avoiding the hard things I need to do to hit my goals.

I still do them.

I just don’t jump in, push through, and teach my brain to hate them even more.

Instead, I stop and ask: “How can I make this fun?”

And I don’t start until I find a way.

Because once it’s fun, I don’t need to keep forcing myself. I can keep doing it. Day after day.

Replace Discipline with SO MUCH FUN You Can’t Stop Getting Better

Product shown across desktop, laptop, tablet and phone mockups

Step 1: Find the Fun

Learn how to find something you genuinely enjoy in the process, so your brain actually wants to do it.

Instead of forcing yourself through something you hate, you'll learn how to turn the process into something you look forward to.

The goal: Go from “I have to do this” to “I can’t wait to do this.”

Step 2: Remove Pain

Learn how to identify everything that makes the process frustrating, painful, overwhelming, or boring and remove it.

Instead of pushing through the parts you hate, you'll learn how to eliminate unnecessary friction and replace pain with fun.

The goal: Go from “This feels hard and painful” to “This feels easy and enjoyable.”

Step 3: Make It a Game

Learn how to literally turn the process into a game, so even boring tasks become fun.

Just like in a video game, you'll create small challenges, clear levels, and a sense of progress that keeps your brain engaged and makes you want to keep going.

The key is always playing the next level: challenging enough to be exciting, but never so hard that it becomes frustrating.

The goal: Go from “This is boring” or “This is too hard” to “I want to beat the next level.”

Question #1Can you really make ANYTHING fun?

Anything that truly matters to you.

The goal isn't to magically make every task fun. It's to change the way you do it until you find a version your brain actually enjoys.

Remove what makes it painful. Add what makes it enjoyable. Turn the boring parts into a game.

You might be surprised by how many things you thought you hated… you only hated the way you were doing them.

Question #2Will this LAST, or is it just a short-term hack?

Longer than you think. It’s designed to become your default.

At first, you’ll need to consciously remind your brain to look for the fun and change the way you approach the activity.

But with repetition, your brain starts associating that activity with enjoyment instead of pain. Eventually, you won’t have to think about it anymore. Fun becomes the default.

Just like pain, pressure, and dread became your default over time, fun can become your new default too.

Question #3This sounds too good to be true. Does it actually work?

It’s based on a basic principle of neuroscience.

Your brain learns to approach things it experiences as rewarding and avoid things it experiences as aversive.

So if you've spent years trying to force yourself through things you hate and struggled to stay disciplined, congratulations: you're human, woohoo 🥳

Your brain isn't built to love forcing itself through pain. It loves learning from reward.

That's what we're changing.

Instead of fighting your brain, you'll learn how to make the process genuinely rewarding, so your brain starts pulling you toward it instead of away from it.

Now, You Have 2 Options:

Option #1:Use DISCIPLINE

You can do what I did for years.

Believe that if you just push harder, you’ll eventually become more disciplined.

But every time you push through something your brain hates, you’re teaching it to want to avoid it even more.

Push harder: Do leads to X, discipline drags you back

So next time, you need even more discipline just to get started.

You’re training your brain to work against you.

I’ve been there.

I don’t ever want to go back.

Option #2:Make it FUN

Instead of forcing your brain to do things it hates, you can teach it to actually enjoy the process.

So it wants to come back.

Have fun: Do leads to love, which loops back to Do

Again. And again. And again.

Until you don’t need to push yourself anymore.

Because you want to do it.

And if you want me to show you exactly how I do that, I’d love to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I use this for?

Pretty much anything you currently feel you need discipline to do.

You can use it for learning a language, working out, eating healthier, building a business, creating content, studying, writing, practicing a skill, or any other process you keep putting off.

The principle is simple: instead of forcing yourself through the process with discipline, you replace discipline with fun.

Can I use this for more than one habit?

Yes. That's the whole point.

This isn't a system for one specific habit. You're learning a framework you can apply to anything that requires consistency.

Once you understand how to make something fun, remove friction, and create the right micro challenge, you can apply the same process to something completely different.

Can I use the framework again and again?

Yes.

You can go through the process every time you encounter something that feels difficult, boring, or requires too much discipline.

You can also use different parts of the framework depending on what's currently making the process difficult.

What if I genuinely hate the thing I need to do?

That's exactly what this is for.

You don't have to magically convince yourself to love something.

You'll learn to look at the process differently, find something you can enjoy, and remove the parts creating unnecessary resistance.

The goal isn't to become better at forcing yourself to do something you hate.

The goal is to change the process.

Is this just about making everything "fun"?

Fun is the starting point, but there's more to it.

You'll learn three things:

1. Make It Fun
Find something you genuinely enjoy in the process.

2. Remove Resistance
Remove the friction, pressure, and perfectionism that make the process unpleasant.

3. Add a Micro Challenge
Find the sweet spot between something that's too easy and boring and something that's too difficult and painful.

What if I already have discipline?

Great.

This isn't about becoming more disciplined.

It's about replacing discipline with fun.

You may already be capable of forcing yourself to do things. The question is whether you can make those things enjoyable enough that you don't have to keep forcing yourself.

Do I still need discipline after this?

The goal isn't to get better at forcing yourself.

The goal is to replace discipline with fun, so you don't have to rely on it anymore.

When you enjoy the process, your brain naturally wants to return to it. Instead of constantly pushing yourself to start, you can reach the point where you actually look forward to doing it.

What if I keep procrastinating?

That's exactly the situation this framework is designed to address.

Instead of asking:

"How can I force myself to stop procrastinating?"

You'll ask:

"What about this process is making me want to escape?"

Then you work on making the process more enjoyable and removing the friction that's causing resistance.

What if I'm a perfectionist?

That's actually one of the biggest things you'll learn to work with.

Perfectionism can create unnecessary friction and make the process painful.

You'll learn to stop making the perfect result the requirement for continuing and instead focus on enjoying the process, making progress, and taking on the right-sized challenge.

What if something is genuinely difficult?

It doesn't have to become easy.

It needs to become enjoyable enough to keep doing.

That's where the Micro Challenge comes in.

Just like in a video game, a level you've already beaten is boring, while a level that's far beyond your ability is painful.

The sweet spot is the next level.

Can this help me learn a new skill?

Yes.

Learning is one of the core applications.

The framework can be used for things like learning a foreign language, practicing an instrument, studying, learning a new business skill, or developing a physical skill.

The idea is to turn the learning process into something you actually want to keep doing.

Can I use this for fitness or weight loss?

Yes.

For example, instead of forcing yourself to eat food you hate because it's "healthy," you can find healthy food you genuinely enjoy.

Instead of treating exercise as something you have to suffer through, you can look for ways to make the process more enjoyable and create challenges that keep you engaged.

Can I use this for work or my business?

Yes.

You can apply the same principles to work, content creation, writing, building a business, or other activities that require sustained effort.

For example, one of the ways I removed friction from writing was by separating the part I enjoy, thinking and sharing ideas, from the part I don't enjoy, actually writing the text.

Do I have to be naturally motivated for this to work?

No.

The whole point is that you don't have to wait for motivation to magically appear.

You learn how to change the process itself so that there is something inside it that you actually want to engage with.

Is this another productivity system where I have to track everything?

No.

The core idea is actually the opposite.

We play. We don't grind.

The goal isn't to give you another complicated system you have to force yourself to follow.

It's to teach you how to change the experience of doing the thing itself.

What if I lose motivation again?

That's normal.

Instead of assuming you need more willpower, go back through the framework.

Ask:

  • Am I still enjoying something about the process?
  • Is there unnecessary friction?
  • Am I being too perfectionistic?
  • Is the challenge too easy?
  • Is the challenge too difficult?

Then adjust the process.

How long can I use this framework?

As long as you want.

The framework isn't tied to a specific 30-day or 90-day challenge.

You can use it whenever you start something new, get stuck, lose interest, or find yourself relying too heavily on discipline.

Is this only for people who struggle with discipline?

No.

It's also for people who are already highly driven but are tired of constantly pushing themselves.

You may be capable of achieving things through discipline and still hate the process.

The goal is to help you get the results without having to live in grind mode.

What's the ultimate goal?

To change the question from:

"How do I force myself to do this?"

to:

"How can I make this so much fun that I don't want to stop?"

That's the entire idea behind replacing discipline with fun.
